This videography was taken in Scottsdale, Arizona, as part of a project to document sediment transport and alluvial/fluvial geomorphology. The video above was taken by a DJI Mavic Pro piloted by Douglas Blatchford, under strict FAA Part 107 guidelines for operating sUAV’s in public airspace.
This aerial photography was taken along the Truckee River Mustang Industrial Development site (FedEx distribution center). The existing floodplain special flood hazard areas were updated to reflect 2018 conditions.
The following layouts illustrate remote sensing work done on 2 miles of the Truckee River from Lockwood to east of the Mustang Road Bridge, on July 13th and 14th, 2018. The aerial reconnaissance provided aerial photography associated with the Truckee River Letter of Map Revision Case No. 16-09-2438P, located here. Ten flight missions were flown with DJI’s Mavic Pro (shown in the header picture above). The 10 flight plans were designed using DJI Flight Planner software, and the Litchi app for the DJI Mavic Pro. The captured imagery was post-processed in Agisoft’s Photoscan software and in ESRI’s ArcMAP GIS program.
The final aerial photography ranged from Lockwood to east of the Mustang Road Bridge, as shown on this layout.
This layout illustrates the value of change management by comparing the fluvial morphology of the Truckee River with ESRI imagery. The aerial imagery was taken July 13th and 14th, 2018 east of the Mustang Road Bridge.

These flight plans were developed in DJI Flight Planner software with 80% end and side overlap, at 200 feet above the ground. Each flight plan was uploaded to the Litchi DJI Mavic Pro App, then flown from west to east, according to FAA guidelines.
